Lake Forest Open
Over 45 players competed in the
7th annual Lake Forest Open in seven draws on one court this
Thanksgiving weekend. Matches started on Thanksgiving morning and continued
through Sunday.
Saleem Molani won the
Men’s 4.5/5.0 beating Steve Goldstein
from Highland Park in a straight forward three games despite Steve’s
outstanding retrieving.
14 year old
Porter Drake from Lake Forest competed in this division as well
as winning the Boys Under 15 division by beating
Craig Chircop from Northfield in three. Chircop took up the
game last season year at The Gow School in Buffalo, New York.
Lake Forest Elite Team players
Andy Bateman, Tom Foorman and
Lydia Smith made strong showings in this division with
Duncan Smith making it through to the semi-finals.
In the Mixed Under 13 draw, Chicago’s
Nick Sissodia took first place honors beating Lake Forest’s
Henry Davis in the draw of eight. Sissodia’s performance reflected
the hours of training he’s put in at the University Club of Chicago
and at Harvard junior squash camp last summer.
Lake Forest Squash’s
Rupert Leyland made an outstanding showing in the Mixed Under
11 division beating Wilmette’s Nate Roberts
3-0. Both competed in their first official tournament here. Nate trains
with his dad at their court in their Wilmette home.
Ian MacGregor, who plays
for Groton when not training in either England or at the Onwentsia Club,
won the 2.5/3.0 Division handily beating new comer
Ceasar Castroverde from Libertyville 3-0.
Two highly competitive and committed
players met in the finals of the Men’s 3.5. Steve Kaplan, from
the East Bank Club in Chicago, ousted
John Stern who regularly plays this event. Kaplan’s family entourage
cheered him on every time he played. And Stern is so hooked on squash
that he is building a squash court in his new home in Highland Park!
